Thin is in. As laptops move toward smaller and lighter designs, why shouldn't tablets? People are busier and when we go out, we want to get lots of stuff done. That means taking everything but the kitchen sink with us on the go. Toshiba has designed the AT200, the worlds thinnest and lightest tablet, to meet our demand for compact, ultraportable technology. The AT200 is currently not available in the US but will soon be introduced as Toshiba Excite X10.
Ultra-thin and ultra-powerful, the AT200 is a 10 inch tablet that measures only 7.7 mm thick. This device is super light. Weighing in at 558g, you might need to take caution not to let it blow away on a windy day. Aside from being thin and light, the AT200 is one of the more powerful Android tablets. Sporting a 1.2GHz dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 processor, you can rest assured that it's capable of running any current or future Android apps. One letdown is that the AT200 ships with Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS instead of ICS. Maybe when it is launched in the US (as Excite X10) it will run Android 4.0. The 10.1 inch HD display is capable of producing 1,280x800 resolution giving us crisp and clear images and videos.
There is dual cameras onboard the AT200, a 5-megapixel main camera with auto-focus and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calling. Storage for the Toshiba tablet ranges from 16GB, 32,GB, and 64GB all hosting a standard 1GB of RAM. Ports for the AT200 include Micro-USB, microSD, micro-HDMI, headphone jack, and power input. Your sensors for this tablet includes GPS, 3D Accelerometer, gyrometer, electronic compass, and ambient light sensor.
Currently the AT200 only comes in WiFi. However, Toshiba is working with undisclosed providers on 3G Models. Aside from it's thin profile and lightweight, there's nothing else that stands out from other tablets. It does have an abundance of ports for easy data transfer. Toshiba is pricing the AT200 at $529.99 for the 16gig and $599.99 for the 32gig. No reports if the 64gig will make it to the US. Look for the Toshiba AT200 (Excite X10) to be available in the US by Q1 of 2012.
