After being introduced at the 2012 CES, the Sony Xperia S had sort of a quiet little buzz around it. There wasn't a whole lot of hype nor fancy fireworks to introduce the product. Sony simply let the smartphone do the talking. Most great products can sell itself, and that's what the Xperia S will do.
The Xperia S is a standard sized smartphone that measures 128 x 64 x 10.6 mm and weighs 144 grams. It will have a 4.3 inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen that supports 720 x 1280 resolution. The scratch resistant screen supports up to 10 points of input so users can easily browse through their social media feed with Sony's Timescape UI.
The Xperia S will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon Dual-core 1.5 GHz processor. The 32GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM is plenty of memory to multitask or play some hardcore games.
A huge advantage that Sony has is the PlayStation Suite. The PlayStation Suite is software framework that is used to provide downloadable PlayStation content for devices that meet the PlayStation certified requirement.
Another feature that sets the Xperia S apart from the rest of the competition is the high definition camera. Having their own digital photography department, Sony was able to integrate a premium camera into this smartphone. The primary camera features: 12 MP, 4000x3000 pixels, autofocus, and LED flash. This camera is capable of Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, 3D sweep panorama, and image stabilization. Video capture at 1080p with continuous autofocus, video light, and video stabilizer. The secondary camera is 1.3 MP and records video at 720p with 30fps.
I/O ports for the Xperia Studio include: microSD, miniUSB, headphone/microphone jack, and HDMI. The standard sensors accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass are included. Xperia S will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread but will have a quick update to 4.0 ICS.
Other notable features includes: HTML5 with Adobe Flash, TV launcher, TrackID music recognition, Document viewer, Voice memo/dial/commands, Predictive text input, Sony's Exmor R, Mobile BRAVIA Engine, and Sony Entertainment Network.
Rumors are the the Sony Smartwatch will ship with the Xperia S. The watch will connect to the phone via Bluetooth and you will be able to conveniently access certain apps.
The Xperia S will make a big splash in the mobile world. The Smartphone will be a complete all-in-one device with premium features. Wether you are a gamer, a photographer, or a techie, the Xperia S has everything you want.
